THE rain hasn’t entirely left us, but it’s been so lovely to see the sun over the last week or so.
The smiles on our greenkeepers faces are a joy to behold! It has been such a hard winter for them.
During the winter season so many tasks that have built up over the summer are on the list to be done at Downes Crediton Golf Club.
However, due to the excessive amount of rainfall, and the very difficult conditions, the staff have worked hard just to stand still with all the work on the course.
There are so many major jobs it is difficult to list them all.
Vital work on the greens, and on the fairways, on the rough and other parts of the golf course has simply stacked up over the winter.
With the excessive amount of rain, it has not been possible to get heavy machinery on the course to cut the grass.
Our staff have been most frustrated that they have not been able to carry out their work as they would have liked to have done.
However last week, working with the large team of Royal Marine Engineers has been a real blessing.
A great deal of work has been done on the trees and the shrubs on the course.
With this large team of extra hands of staff have been able to get on with their many other tasks as well.
The most obvious and significant sign that things are improving on the course are the stripes on the fairway and on the greens!
Yes, the mowers have been out, and the grass has been cut, the whole course looks so different.
It just a few days the course looks glorious, and is busy again. Well done to the staff for their persistence, patience and hard work.
