THE Seniors at Downes Crediton Golf Club played their Albert Midsummer Cup on Monday, June 23 and Division One and overall winner was Peter Russell who scored 35 points. Second was Cyril Dawes also with 35 points, on countback. Division Two winner was George Crabbe with 31 points and in second place was Rick Eidam with 30 points. Thursday, June 26 was Ladies' Captains' Day. The leading team with 92 points were Sue Bonner, Viv Jordan and Margaret Mapledoram. In second place were Penny Long, Ying Wong and wildcard Sue Bonner with 91 points. The wooden spoon went to newly crowned Ladies' Club Champion Stacey Ford playing with Sue Jackson and Sue Bond. After a two hour delay due to rain the Club were finally able to complete the second round of the Club Championship on Saturday, June 28, where Issac Greenwood held a two shot lead. Issac followed up with a level handicap gross 73 to finish with a total of 147. However, Martin Garnsey shot quite possibly the best round Downes Crediton has ever seen as he shot a gross 69 to retain his title by two shots. Martin also won the handicap side as well finishing with a nett total of 136. Unfortunately, it was not to be Ollie Greenslade's year as he struggled home in 77 finishing in third with a total of 153. DG
