MONDAY, July 1 saw Jim Downing race to victory in the Seniors July Medal played at Downes Crediton Golf Club, scoring a superb nett 65 for a two stroke victory from Colin Parr and Brian Kelly who posted a pair of nett 67’s.

Division Two saw a trio of players score nett 71’s with Robin Tooze coming out on top followed by Andrew Chandler in second and Andy Gibson third.

Wednesday, July 3 saw Downes members compete for the Shiphams Trophy, an individual stableford from the yellow tees.

Once again Neil Chard showed his recent form posting a fine eight under par 44 points to take the victory.

Pete Lawrence followed in second place whilst Philip Moffat scored 37 points to take third.

In a close fought affair Ying Wong took the win in the Ladies County Stableford 7 on Thursday, July 4 scoring a level par 36 points.

Lyn Parry (35 pts) followed in second place whilst Ann Woodger (34 pts) took third. Viv Bailey topped Division Two posting 33 points.

In this months Thursday evening stableford David Taylor was victorious with 15 points.

On a beautiful day (Saturday, July 6) Downs Crediton category one players took advantage of a course in superb condition to post some fine scores.

Top of the pile was Paul Luxton who put together an impressive gross 71 nett 65 to sweep the board and win the gross, overall handicap and Division One.

Second in Division One went to the in-form Matt Russell (nett 66) beating Steve Whyte (nett 66) into third by virtue of a better back nine.

Division Two saw Gerald Abdoll take the win with a nett 67, three clear of second placed Duncan Cooper and third placed Chris Bruce, who were among five players on nett 70.

Stuart Cowling topped Division Three with a nett 71 with Chris Bowden (nett 71) in second place and Andrew Rogers (nett 72) third.

A massive well done to the Downes Crediton Palairet team who beat Teign Valley 3 and 2 on Sunday, July 7 to move into the next round of the Palairet competition.

Barry Austin
