AT the beginning of a new golfing season a series of AGMs are held.
These look back over the year past, and look forward to the coming season. Last Monday it was the turn of the Seniors Section to reflect on 2025 and look forward to many events planned for 2026.
Reflecting on his year as Seniors Captain, David Cousins said that largely all he had had to do was follow the successful programme that his predecessors had established.
Seniors numbers had been substantially boosted by the arrival of many new Senior members and he would like to think they had all been made very welcome.
The May Open, which is the Seniors primary source of income, was a success helped by the much improved weather compared to 2024. There were 120 entrants.
In the Emerton Court competition, the team lost in the first round to Boringdon Park, but he saw no reason that they shouldn’t win in 2026, just as they had done in 2022.
It was their second year in the South Devon Seniors League. This had provided Seniors with the opportunity to play some of Devon’s premier golf courses, and not surprisingly was heavily oversubscribed.
Their 20 friendly fixtures were also well supported, as were the Wednesday and Friday roll ups, and of course the weekly Monday competitions.
Forty four Seniors visited Oake Manor for the Captain’s away day. In temperatures of over 30C it was a successful but tiring day, particularly for David who it transpired was playing with double pneumonia!
After 12 years of continuous defeat the “Rest of The World” finally beat “The Devonian’s” 10½– 3½.
It is always a hotly contested affair giving plenty of opportunity for friendly banter.
David feels Downes Crediton Seniors can look forward with confidence to a successful 2026.
