THE Seniors at Downes Crediton Golf Club played their first medal of the season on Monday, April 18, all off white tees.
Overall winner with a fine two under par nett 70 was Brian Johnston, which also gave him victory in Division Two by two shots from John Warren (nett 70) in second place. Roger Wellaway, in third place, posted a nett 72.
David Jordan took the honours in Division One courtesy of a nett 71 with Tom Berry and Brian Kelly finishing second and third respectively both scoring nett 72.
The Midweek Stableford, on Wednesday, April 20, saw some high scores posted with Jim Dunlop finishing top of the pile with 41 points. Mark Dafters and Jim Hutchison both scored 40 points to finish second and third.
On Thursday, April 21 Downes Ladies Captain Liz Mapson continued her fine form winning the County Stableford Three scoring 35 points.
This also gave Liz victory in the Silver Division by a single point over Doreen Warren (34 points) with Fran Shrubsole third with 33 points.
Rickie Pawsey and Sue Jackson both top scored in the Bronze One Division with 34 points but Rickie took the victory courtesy of a superior back nine holes. Joyce Gilg was third with 30 points.
The Bronze Two Division was won by Ros McIntyre scoring 33 points followed in second place by Sue Barr (26 points).
Saturday, April 23 saw all sections of the club come together to play the St George’s Day Fun Nine Hole Texas Scramble. This consisted of a shotgun start at 3pm followed by a barbecue and a “Race Night” in the evening with all the proceeds from the day going to the Captain’s Charity, Devon Freewheelers.
Winners of the golf were the senior team of John Essery, Ed Copp, Barry Lias and Colin Cole who scored a gross 33 nett 31. In second place, one shot further back, were John Veale, John Cross, Shaun Cross and Jack Cross (nett 33) with Gerry Hodder, Di Botterill, Sue Jackson and Di Parsons taking the mixed prize with a nett 32.5.
The best dressed team of the day was won easily by the ladies team of Fran Shrubsole, Judith Ezard, Liz Mapson and Lyn Parry. A fun day was had by all.
The morning saw some Downes members compete in a Roll Up Stableford and winning with 38 points was Darren Clifford, with Michael White in second place with 37 points whilst Shaun Moore finished third scoring 35.
