MONDAY, September 30 saw Downes Crediton Golf Club Seniors get together for the Medal Winners Trophy following a victorious season.

On a tough day it was Tom Pettifer who was up to the challenge to score a fine nett 72 to take the title. The other seniors played a roll up stableford which saw Roger Field win with a score of 38 points while Richard Wilson finished second posting 36 points.

Rather than the Midweek Stableford last week saw Downes members compete for the Min Lwin Trophy on Wednesday, October 2 and it was Andrew Baitup who prevailed scoring 36 points.

In the ladies section on Thursday, October 3 Doreen Warren stole the show in the County Stableford as she battled through the wind and rain to score a superb 38 points.

She also topped Division One with Lyn Parry placing second whilst Penny Long took the spoils in Division Two.

The annual Norman Sutton Four Man Team Open was played on Saturday, October 5 and it was the quartet of Neil Chard, Keith Sprague Tony Jordan and Andrew Stevens that claimed victory and the shield with a dazzling score of 121 (19 under).

They were closely followed in second place by the team of Joe McLoughlin, Gavin Batten and Darren Holmes with a fantastic score of 122 (18 under) while Ash Cross, Robert Buglass, Martyn Wooltorton and Max Lowles placed third posting 126 (14 under).

Sunday, October 6 saw four of the Downes Crediton Summer Knockout finals take place and it turned out to be a bumper day for Martin Garnsey and Maurice Curtis as they won two of the four trophies on offer.

Playing in the morning they first claimed the Lee and Hudson Scratch Foursomes beating the pair of Andy Frankum and Mike Nott and then later in the day they added the Stan Setter Cup with a victory over Andy Frankum and Chris Bruce.

In the Gardner Salvers, a foursomes pairs trophy, the duo of Gerry Tomlinson and Neil Bishop prevailed taking victory over Jason Arnold and Ben Rowe whilst the Crown and Sceptre (a singles knock-out for handicaps over 18) saw Stewart Cowling defeat Tony Blackburn on the 18th hole.
