Okehampton Golf Club’s Peter (16) wins place in week-long European Junior finals in

SATURDAY, September 3 saw a large field competing in Okehampton Golf Club’s Four Ball Better Ball Open Competition.

Overall winners, with 45 points, were Evan Rees and Alan Stokes, 2 Del Owen and Graham Moysey 44 points, 3 Simon James and Steve Mander 43 points.

The winning visitor team from Portmore Golf Club were Mike Peters and Jamie Cameron with 40 points just ahead on the back nine from the second placed visitor team, also from Portmore Golf Club, Neil Reid and Alan Huxtable.

First Okehampton team prize went to Chris Pike and Gareth Holt with 43 points, 2 Okehampton team of Malcolm Hill and Peter Howell 42 points.

The best combination team prize went to James Stacey of Okehampton Golf Club and Jon Jamison of Holsworthy Golf Club with 42 points.

On Wednesday, August 31 the ladies section entered a medal competition for the breast cancer pin. The winner of the Bronze section with nett 68 was club stalwart Doris Jewell. In second place with nett 71 was Janice Thwaites on the back nine from, in third, Mary Keir.

The winner of the Silver Division and the breast cancer pin was Sue Stanbury with nett 66 followed into second place by Marcia Collett with nett 68, and third position went to Cherry James with nett 72.

Congratulations go to 16-years-old Peter Howell from Okehampton Golf Club who won the Junior European Open held at Woodbury Park on Sunday, September 4.

Peter finished two strokes ahead of the field with a gross 74 from the Championship tees in this scratch qualifying competition. He now travels to Spain in November for the week-long European Junior Finals.
