MONDAY, August 12 saw Roger Gratton beat a strong field in the Seniors Captain’s Cup at Downes Crediton Golf Club when posting a superb 41 points.

Roger also topped Division Two with David Fleming in second place with 39 points and Alan Matthews third with 37 points.

Jim Keshole took the honours in Division One with a fine score of 39 points beating Jim Dunlop (39 pts) into second courtesy of a better back nine.

Neil Chard took another win in the Midweek Stableford on Wednesday, August 14 posting a solid 38 points.

Downes Ladies played their County Stableford Nine on Thursday, August 15 whilst also raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

On a tough day the cream rose to the top with Annet Coles taking the victory scoring a sound 34 points. Ying Wong (33 pts) finished second with Fran Shrubsole (30 pts) following in third.

Jerry Thornton won the Nine hole Thursday Evening Stableford with 15 points.

A good field turned out on Saturday, August 17 for the 21st Century Flag Medal and it was Joe McLoughlin who took full advantage of a course in superb condition to post a fine nett 65 for a maiden victory.

Joe also topped Division Three, three shots clear of nearest challengers Wayne Moore (nett 69) and Robin Tooze (nett 69) who finished second and third respectively.

In Division One Adam Hull shot a fine gross 73 nett 67 to win with Club Captain Graham Dyne (nett 69) second and Gavin Batton (nett 70) third.

Paul Hayward scored a nett 68 to win Division Two, one shot clear of Kate Cornish (nett 72, one under) in second, with Chris Bruce (nett 70) third.

On Sunday, August 18 past Captains and Committee members took part in their annual competition and it was David Taylor who scooped both pieces of silverware with 33 points.
