THE Devon Golf Ladies Club Champions final was held at Woodbury Park on Sunday, September 23 and many congratulations go to Abby Turner from Okehampton Golf Club who came a very creditable second with a gross 81 nett 78 - only three shots behind the overall winner.

On Friday, September 28 the ladies President’s team, together with caddies and supporters, travelled to Tiverton for the finals of the County Presidents Trophy which had 27 teams in the divisional stages.

After some real battles in the quarter and semi-final rounds Okehampton were now up against the ladies from Ilfracombe.

It was always going to be a very tough match with some extremely close games, but after a nail-biting finish Okehampton’s “Lilac Ladies” managed to win by four matches to three to win the President’s Trophy.

On Sunday, September 30 after a tense wait for the outcome of the other matches Okehampton’s Dartmoor League squad became League Champions.

Well done to Captain Paul Prouse, his vice-captain Barry Down, and all the team for a great season. Also many thanks to the sponsors Barkwell Plumbing Heating Ltd.

Okehampton also hosted the last of its Mixed Open Competitions for this year and the overall winners were Pete Freeman and Jan Sweetman from Portmore with 43 points and in second place were Mick Curran and Maggie Caws from Okehampton with 41 points.

The first visitor prize was awarded to Richard Mallabone and Karen Thomas from Portmore with 40 points after countback placing Brian Newman and Hayley Carpenter in second.

On Saturday a three ball two to count stableford was held and the winners of Division One with 86 points were Colin Cornwall, Kevin Pedrick and Harry Hawking.

Division Two was won by Richard Johnson, David Stanbury and Pete Grant with 77 points.
