ON Monday, July 21 an important event in the seniors calendar took place at Downes Crediton Golf Club, the annual Devonians Versus the Rest of the World match.
This has has always been an eagerly-awaited fixture in the seniors golfing calendar for the last 21 years!
The result has been very predictable in recent times, having been won by the Devonians for the last 12 years in a row.
But on a warm, but showery day, the Rest of the World team had a very comfortable 10½ to 3⅕ outcome to win the much-coveted trophy. The match was followed by a very nice meal and lots of amicable ribbing and teasing in the clubhouse.
The ladies of Downes played their final County President's qualifying round against Woodbury Park at Woodbury.
Woodbury was unfortunately too strong for the Downes Ladies, who came in a very creditable second!
Woodbury have now qualified for the quarter finals which will be held at Downes Crediton Golf Club on August 8, and we wish them every success in this, and hopefully going on to the finals in September.
A huge thank-you must go to all the ladies from DCGC who competed in the matches over the past couple of months - you all did the club proud.
In the ladies’ Thursday competition, the 18-hole stableford this was won by Lyn Parry with 39 points and the nine-hole event by Annet Coles with 21 points.
The midweek stableford was won by Mike Nott with 41 points and the Thursday nine-hole event was won this week by Mark Walker with 21 points.
There were over 100 entrants in the Kirton Cup on Saturday. The winners were the Matthew Brooks, Colin Baker and Jason Hayman with an excellent 86 points.
Late news! Well done Palairet team, more on this next week.
