CONTINUING the feature from last week, Downes Crediton Golf Club Captain Gerald Abdoll was reflecting on the summer season of golf.

His report continues as follows: “My chosen charity, FORCE Cancer Charity, has received tremendous support from our members throughout the year.

“Thanks to your generosity and participation in our fundraising activities, we have raised almost £4,000.

“This is a fantastic achievement, and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed, donated prizes, sponsored events or taken part in our fundraising activities.

“Another memorable occasion was the inaugural Presidents’ Invitational Day, an excellent initiative suggested by Nick Bromell. Nick has been involved with Sandford Cricket Club, Crediton Rugby Club and Crediton Football Club over the years.

“The event brought these clubs to compete with the Golf Club. On this occasion the Rugby Club took home the honours.

“However the real success was the spirit of friendly competition and the opportunity to strengthen the connections between local sporting organisations.

“I hope this event will go from strength to strength and become a regular fixture in the sporting calendar.

“Initiatives such as this demonstrate the value of working together and celebrating the sporting community we are fortunate to have in and around Crediton.

“Finally looking ahead, a club such as Downes Crediton is above all a Members Club.

“Its continued success depends on the willingness of members to give their time, skills and effort to help it thrive.

“Whether through volunteering, supporting competitions, helping with events or contributing to the club’s wider activities, every contribution makes a difference.

“I hope this spirit of involvement and generosity will continue for many years to come, allowing Downes Crediton to grow and prosper for the benefit of current and future members.

“My thanks to everyone who has supported me throughout my year as your Club Captain.”
