WELLINGTON RFC 17-31 CREDITON RFC COLTS XV

THE Colts showed tremendous character in testing conditions as they battled through a wet and physically demanding contest away at Wellington.

With player availability stretched, the Colts travelled with just 12 players and were grateful to Wellington for lending two players, allowing the game to be played as a 14-a-side fixture. As the match progressed and injuries and fatigue took their toll, numbers eventually dropped to 12-a-side, creating plenty of space but doing little to ease the challenge of the conditions.

The rain made handling difficult throughout and turned the game into a forwards-dominated affair, with both sides relying heavily on their pack to gain territory and maintain possession. Crediton's forwards responded superbly, putting in some huge tackles and showing real determination around the breakdown.

Territory was at a premium and the kicking game from Charlie Broomfield proved invaluable.

What stood out most, however, was the commitment shown by the squad. Every one of the 12 Crediton players completed the full match, putting their bodies on the line from first whistle to last in what was a hugely physical encounter. In weather that would have tested any group of players, the lads dug deep, worked tirelessly for one another and demonstrated resilience and togetherness.

Scorers: Tries – Zack Blewett (3), Will Lewis (2), Toby Pennington; Conversions – Charlie Broomfield (3).
