ON Friday, August 8, Downes Crediton Golf Club hosted the County President's Trophy quarter finals.
This is a trophy for ladies whose handicaps are up to 21.4, and is open to all clubs across Devon.
After the qualifying rounds are played, the eight highest-scoring clubs go through.
Teams from Staddon Heights, Tiverton, Thurlestone, Tavistock, Woodbury Park, Teignmouth, East Devon and Saunton won through to the quarter finals.
The first teams teed off at 9.20am, with the course looking resplendent and in excellent condition.

Following the day’s matches, the winning teams were Tiverton, Tavistock, Thurlestone and Staddon Heights. These will go through to the semi finals in September.
The golf was followed by a meal, which was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to all teams, best of luck for the semi finals.
On Saturday, the main in-house club competition was the August medal. A routine event possibly? But this was also the Submariners Shield competition and one hundred golfers took part in the event. First played for in 1977, the Submariners Shield has an intriguing name, and possibly a very interesting history. Can anyone shed any light on this? Our current Downes members would love to know more! The winner of the shield was Tristan Kershaw.
On Monday, the Seniors August Medal was won by Robin Tooze with remarkable score of 61, and a handicap cut to celebrate! Trevor Stone 64 was second, and David Cousins third with 66.
The Midweek Stableford was won by Mike Thurston with 40 points and the Thursday 9 hole competition was won by Andrew Miles with 23 points.
On Thursday, the ladies competition was for the Jill Aldworth Trophy, a former lady member, sadly missed. This was won by Linda Gill, with Shirley Stunell in second place and Fran Shrubsole in third place.
