A SENIORS competition played at Downes Crediton Golf Club on Monday, June 17 saw Colin Baker take the victory in Division One and win the Albert Midsummer’s Cup with a superb score of 40 points.
Peter Blinkhorn (37 pts) finished in second place whilst in Division Two it was Alan Matthews who took the victory posting 38 points with Andy Gibson (36 pts) second.
The winner of the Midweek Stableford played on Wednesday, June 19 was Daniel Knight scoring 40 points.
Thursday, June 20 saw the home trio of Ladies Captain Shirley Stunell, Di Botterill and Penny Long take victory in the Downes Crediton Ladies Open scoring an impressive 76 points. Ying Wong, Bridget Leonard and Ayumi Coulton (71 pts) finished in second place.
The leading visiting team were Judith Ezard, Rickie Pawsey and Penny Deakin who posted 61 points.
After last week’s first round of the Club Championship Saturday, June 22 saw the exciting conclusion of the biggest competition of the year at Downes Crediton and it really did go down to the wire.
With a gaggle of players in with a chance to win the Club Championship (gross), with three holes to play, experience came to the fore as Martin Garnsey took the victory posting a 77 to add to his first round 75 for the slimmest of one shot victories.
Last year’s champion Ollie Greenslade posted a “best of the day” 74 to add to a first round 79 to take second place whilst the leader, with three holes to play, Paul Luxton eventually scored a second round 78 to finish third.
In the Buller Bowl (handicap championship) Ashley Cross dominated proceedings following up his first round nett 65 with a nett 71 for a 136 total and a four-shot victory.
Darren Russell (nett 68 - 72 =140) finished second whilst Jason Arnold (73-68=141) was placed third.
