SATURDAY, May 24, was the busiest day of last week for Downes Crediton Golf Club with nearly100 members, and some visitors, competing in a Stableford competition.

For previous captain’s there was also the trophy known as the 40th Anniversary Jug.

The Stableford was won by Michael Allen with an excellent 41 points.

As the competition took place, every player collected, and returned, their scorecard from the Downes Pro Shop.

The club is fortunate to have two professional golfers, Joe Jordan and Ollie Greenslade.

Their duties are many and varied. On a typical Saturday they will be very busy issuing scorecards, explaining the rules of the competition and then checking the scores and entering them into the computer and publicising the results.

For the less experienced golfers they often have to explain the type of competition. What is a medal competition, a Stableford, a Texas scramble, a Greensomes, a Foursomes as opposed to a Four ball? And what on earth is a Gruesomes!

In addition Joe and Ollie run a super Golf Shop, they also give lessons to beginners, and often to those hoping to improve their game either on the course or in the Studio.

Just occasionally they even get a chance to play themselves!

The club is very grateful for all the hard work they put in to help members and visitors enjoy their golf.

Other competitions last week included the Seniors May Medal which was won by Peter Woodger (68) with Richard Lloyd and Nigel Ashplant (69) a close second and third.

The Wednesday Stableford was won by Andrew Miles with 39 points, and the Thursday evening Stableford by Joel Mortimer with 23 points.

The main event for the ladies was the Thursday Stableford won by Lyn Parry with 37 points.
