ALAN Matthews stole the show on Monday, August 2, by winning the Albert Midsummer Cup by shooting a fantastic nett 63 to take home the trophy and Division Two prize, while Arthur Moughton finished second with a score of nett 66.
Robin Abrahams took the Division One prize with a nett 66 beating Dennis Wright who also scored a nett 66, but lost to a better back nine.
The Texas scramble AGM competition was played during the week of Wednesday, August 4, and it was the team of Colin Ray, Ron Berry, Ricky Buttle and Phil Beasley who scored 86 points to claim top spot.
While in the nine hole competition it was the team of Jim Enright, Mark Walker and John Piper who scored 39 points to take home the nine hole prize.
This month’s ladies England golf medal was taken by Ying Wong who scored a nett 71 to also win the Division One prize while in Division Two it was Diane Parsons who scored a nett 75 to take the Division Two prize.
The Thursday evening stableford was won by Ben Dommett who scored 19 points.
Last weekend saw Downes members compete for the 21st Century Flag and although it was played in very testing weather conditions on Saturday, August 7, Rodin Mackay produced some fine golf to take the overall victory and top Division One scoring a nett 68.
In Division Two Nick Murch also posted a nett 68 for the victory whilst Peter Huda (nett 69) won Division Three.
