BRIGHT sunshine and a large crowd greeted the players for the recent Crediton Youth v Under 18’s football match.
With the Under 18’s having a side made up of a good mix of some of last season’s players and some new faces up against an experienced coaches side, it promised to be an exciting game on a superb looking Lords Meadow pitch.
The first half was probably edged by the coaches, who created the better chances, with Steve Ebdy twice hitting the woodwork.
The second half started much the same with both Sean Hartrey and Martin Daniel going close for the coaches.
But, as the temperature started to rise, the Under 18’s got back into the game. Only a few fine saves from coaches ‘keeper Ian Leach kept it goalless before Joe Sandom with a fine finish put the youngsters in front.
The coaches again piled on the pressure with a excellent save from Cory Baker denying Steve Ebdy, and a superb goal-line clearance by Josh Robinson from an in swinging corner again thwarting the coaches.
As the game drew to an end Steve Lethbridge again went close, and Rich Edworthy hit the woodwork, before the Under 18’s broke away and were awarded a penalty.
Fraser Maule coolly stepped up and calmly put it away to seal a 2-0 victory. A great game played in superb spirit, with special thanks to Phil Bridgman for refereeing.
Prior to the game Crediton Youth FC held it’s annual Signing on Event and barbecue, complete with Precision Soccer and an ice cream van in attendance.
