THE village of Thorverton has been lucky enough to receive a substantial grant from Viridor which, together with local funding, has enabled the Parish Council to purchase some exciting new play and exercise equipment for the Recreation Ground.

The Parish Council also commissioned the construction of a wildlife garden at the Recreation Ground, which is taking great shape with thanks to Ann and Jerry Parkinson and the help of villagers.

On Sunday, July 10 there will be an Open Day at Thorverton Recreation Ground from 11am, where, apart from officially opening the new equipment and wildlife garden, there will be children’s games, a table tennis competition, face painting, balloon modelling, music and refreshments.

Those who go along are encouraged to take a picnic and the WI hut facilities will be available.

Thorverton children have been drawing posters which will be judged on the day by local children’s book illustrator Clare Elsom.
