PLAYERS from Exeter City Community Trust’s Ability Counts teams joined hundreds of others from across the county at Devon FA headquarters for the Disability County Cup Final.

And the event was a great success with two of the teams qualifying for their respective finals and the premier section side winning their game and lifting the trophy.

The newly established women’s team, featuring for the first time in the County Cup Finals, bowed out at the group stages.

Exeter City Community Trust, which is the partner charity of Exeter City Football Club, is committed to providing sporting activities for all; its inclusive Ability Counts programme offers activity for adults with mental health issues, learning difficulties and physical impairments.

Danny Harris, head of wellbeing and inclusion at Exeter City Community Trust, said: “It was an amazing event to be part of and we’re really proud of all of our teams.

“We’re very lucky to have an amazing group of volunteers who support our teams all through the season, turning out whatever the weather, some of whom travel quite long distances to attend training sessions.”

The Ability Counts volunteer team are; Dan Hewitt, Alonzo Marshall, Ray and Gary Ball, James Lyons and Craig Hilton.

A celebration evening is planned for the Ability Counts teams at St James Park on June 25.
