CREDITON RFC 3RD XV 22-12 EXMOUTH WITHYCOMBE
THE 3rds made the trip down to Exmouth to face Withycombe with a slightly unsettled feeling in camp.
The league’s game-on rule kicked in on Friday when Withycombe had to concede the Merit Table fixture, having only seven available players. We were able to lend them six lads and the game was played as a 13-a-side friendly – a great example of how working together can ensure that rugby is played!
It’s never easy lining up against your mates, so a massive thank-you to Danny Parcell, Ben Wallis, Richard Gray, Kieran Jones, Corban Beckett and John Gurzynski for pulling on the opposition shirt and making sure the game could go ahead.
As expected, things were a bit disjointed early on, but both sides soon settled and produced a decent contest. We came out on top in the end, with tries from Ben Rodd, Lewis Cook, Joe Crocker and Victor Oldland, plus a conversion from Owen Cooper.
The lads made the best of a tricky situation, and rugby was definitely the winner this week.
We wish Withycombe all the very best for the rest of the season, here’s hoping their numbers grow and they get the momentum they deserve.
Coming up on Saturday, March 7: 1st XV v Teignmouth (A), 2nd XV v Devonport Services (A), 3rd XV v Exmouth (H), Colts XV v TBC.
