SPREYTON 3 - STOKE FLEMING AND STRETE 0

SPREYTON advanced to the next round of the Devon Intermediate Cup on Saturday, October 13 with a tough 3-0 win over Stoke Fleming and Strete.

The ground staff worked hard to get the game on and both teams still tried to play football in a swirling wind.

Liam Ward capped his return to Spreyton, after a spell at Whipton and Pinhoe, with the opener. Chris Down played a great ball down the wing before Owen Gregory curled the ball with the outside of his foot for Liam to slide home.

Owen then capped off a great first half by skipping through, rounding the ‘keeper and then finishing from a tight angle for 2-0.

The conditions worsened into the second half. The back four stayed strong for Spreyton under some significant pressure before Owen broke through again and slid home the third.

All of the players worked their socks off and saw out the eighth win of the season and a place in the third round of the cup for the first time.

Man of the match for Spreyton was Matt Rowland.

Next up is a home game against Offwell in the league on Saturday, October 20.
