IT is mid-summer and North Tawton Bowling Club is progressing well in all its matches which consist of friendlies, North Devon Triples, Over 60’s and Shield Games.

The ladies have the same schedule and as usual are doing very well. We are stretched at times to fulfil all of these fixtures for nearly every day of the week.

However the selection committee ensures that everybody in the club gets a game!

The club’s new coaches John Kinsey and Anita Lamey will be on-hand for those who would like to “have a go” for the first time or brush up on your existing game. Club night is Monday’s from 5.30pm and is open to all.

As for the new clubhouse, the building is really taking shape with the roof now going on. It will consist mainly of a dining, bar and kitchen area with all the accompanying facilities. It will also be big enough for indoor bowls in the winter.

There will be a front veranda, for the summer, overlooking the lovely grounds and with the hills and outskirts of North Tawton in the background. So no need to play just come and watch!?

Money however is tight, so to ensure the building will be up to the high standards we have set, the committee is calling on all members and friends to lend a helping hand.

If you think you can help in whatever capacity please call one of the following: Mike Thwaites (Chairman) telephone 01837 82 543; Gordon Denham (secretary) telephone 01363 881414 or Robert Arscott (treasurer) telephone 01837 82691.

We can ensure North Tawton has this wonderful facility for not only bowls but for the community as a whole.

Mike Thwaites
