NORTH TAWTON 33 - NEW CROSS 12

WITH the last month or so of the season hit by the heavy rain, leading to waterlogged pitches, it was great to see the sun out at Taw Meadows for the visit of the New Cross, who sit mid table a few places above North Tawton, who have suffered from the start-stop nature of the season to date.

With a lively looking side taking to the pitch, expectations were high for a good result from the home supporters and as it turned out not only was it a good result for North Tawton but it was also a very enjoyable game to watch, both sides giving it their all and in most parts played in good spirits, maybe getting a bit full on towards the end.

New Cross scored the opening try inside five minutes plus conversion 0-7, this after an opening period of attacking play from the visitors.

North Tawton went from defending to attacking rugby right from the restart and with a try from Liam Pyle and a kick added by Jack Phare, levelled the score, 7-7.

Two more tries from North Tawton, one from Glen Walters and one from Jack Phare took us to 19-7 and it has to be said that the home side looked in control.

A try from New Cross keeping the Tawts honest as we went to halftime, 19-12.

North Tawton played some good running slick passing rugby that the visitors began to find frustrating, leading to a yellow card.

Down to 14 men New Coss conceded two more tries, a second from Liam Pyle and one from Cain Holiday, both with conversions from Jack Phare giving the final score of 33-12.

A well-deserved victory that takes North Tawton into the Christmas break with renewed enthusiasm for the rest of the season.
