DESPITE the weather Crediton Youth Football Club still held a very successful Six-a-Side tournament on the pitches at Lords Meadow, which during the course of the weekend saw around 170 teams from all over the South West take part in the club’s largest fundraising event.

With up to 15 pitches in use at times, more than 500 games were played by more than 1,300 players. Once again teams from places as far away as Wootton Bassett and Hallen supported the event.

Martin Daniel ,Club Chairman, said: “Even with the weather against us, we managed to put on a great tournament. We are extremely grateful to Crediton Dairy our main sponsor, and all the local businesses that give us so much support.”

Vice Chairman, Mike Edworthy, added: “It takes a great team effort over the weekend. This year it was great to see a lot of new faces getting involved, and to see some of our ex players coming back to also help out.”

One of the highlights of this year’s tournament was to see Crediton Youth again having girls sides competing.

The Under 11 girls made it through to the semi-finals, losing out on sudden death penalties to Twyford girls, with the Under 13 girls going one better, only to lose out to Barnstaple Youth girls in the final.
