BUCKFASTLEIGH RANGERS 0 - SPREYTON 3

SATURDAY, March 9 saw Spreyton FC playing in the Devon Intermediate Cup semi-final against a well-drilled opposition.

The game had a real competition feeling with both sides putting on a show.

At 11 minutes in Ben Angel delivered a cross from the right, Owen Gregory flicked it on for captain Steve Kinsey to finish at the back post. 0-1.

The next half-hour both teams were creating chances with lots of attacks down the flanks but not quite enough to produce another goal.

With 40 minutes gone Spreyton conceded a free kick in a very dangerous position. The home sides No 10 struck a peach of a strike destined for the top bin only for Jordan Rowe to produce one of the saves of the season leaving the whole ground stunned.

Half-time and the Sprey’s were winning by one goal.

The second half saw Bucks putting a lot of pressure on the Sprey’s leaving the manager with a tough decision. Going against the grain with a risky decision bringing an extra striker on to take the game to the opposition leaving a few people scratching their heads.

At 70 minutes in that decision was made taking CB Ko King off for Cam Pow as a third striker.

With 75 minutes gone Chris Down pulled rank to deliver a swinging free kick from the left edge of the area. Liam Ward connected with his head, as he does so often, giving the game its second goal. 0-2.

Wardy picked up a knock soon after and was replaced by Matt Burt. Quinton Smith was also struggling so came off to give Greg Jolly his chance.

With 89 minutes gone and Cam Pow had a shot rattle the crossbar. On 92 minutes Jordan Rowe got his second assist in two games sending a thundering kick for Cam Pow to shrug off the last man and thread a well-deserved goal past the ‘keeper. 0-3.

Man of the match for Spreyton was awarded to ‘keeper Jordan Rowe. Three clean sheets and two assists in his last three games - the lad is on fire.

Also a special mention goes to James Turner who was unfortunate not to pick up the award with a faultless display at the heart of defence.

The lads showed great character and great attitude which was a real pleasure for the gaffer. Everybody put in a huge shift and really deserved the result.

A big thank you to Buckfastleigh for being great hosts and bringing out the best in us. A lot of respect shown from both sides at the final whistle.
