ON Wednesday, April 29, Sandford FC were at home to Exeter University 8th at the George V Playing Field.

The Uni kicked off with a stiff breeze in their faces playing towards the pavilion.

Sandford went on the attack and again several attempts were either saved or missed before the University scored in the 34th minute, a cross field ball crept in under the crossbar, 0-1.

On 37 minutes the home side came close to levelling the score when a shot cannoned off the bar, 0-1.

The second half started with Sandford chasing the equaliser and after 57 minutes Matt Baker duly obliged, 1-1.

Two minutes later the students hit back making the score 1-2.

Then, from a Sandford free kick, Sam Reeves floated a ball into the penalty area from which they scored.

Then after some deliberation the student’s lineman raised his flag for offside.

No goal which afterwards looking at a video clearly showed the player was on side. This took the sting out of Sandford and then the students scored again, 1-3. This was the score at full-time.

On Saturday, May 2, Sandford traveled to Exeter to play Priory in their second from last match of the season.

Needing points from both games to finish runner's up, Sandford kicked off on a hard but wet pitch with it raining all afternoon.

Less than two minutes later James Durand shot wide then both Keiron Stanbury and Tyler Morgan Huggett headed wide.

On a difficult surface both teams struggled and on 11 minutes Shaun Stapleton hit a volley from outside box which flew into the net, 0-1.

On 16 minutes Sandford increased their lead when a through ball was chased down by James Durand who slotted it past the advancing keeper, 0- 2.

Priory then went into the Sandford end and after some sloppy defence scored, 1-2.

Several more chances went begging before halftime arrived.

The second half started and still the rain kept falling Jayden John Mark came on to replace Matt Baker.

Roger Hill went off with concussion. Captain Sam Reeves had a shot and Priory hit the bar before Jayden scored to make it, 1-3.

Sandford should have scored more goals with the chances they had and with the home side coming on strong were relieved when Jayden struck again to make the score 1- 4 to Sandford.

With keeper Headley making some difficult saves in wet conditions, "ford" held on to win.

On Saturday is our last match of the season which will be played at home against Westexe Park Rangers, KO 3pm.

Please come along and cheer the lads on, in their quest for promotion.
