SANDFORD Cricket Club’s Devon League season gets underway this coming Saturday, May 2, with the 1sts playing at Plymouth (12.30pm start), the 3rds playing at Buckfastleigh against Bovey Tracey 3rds, and the new 4th team playing at home against Bideford 3rds on the main pitch at Creedy Park, both with 1pm starts.

Unfortunately the 2nds don't have a game as their match against Uplyme and Lyme Regis has been cancelled following Uplyme and Lyme Regis decision to withdraw from the League shortly before the season starts due to a lack of players.

Also on Tuesday, May 5, the 2026 Community League season gets underway with the Sandford Development XI taking on Crediton Milling at Creedy Park with a 6.15pm start.

The club has already played a number of friendly games with three emphatic wins and a loss, as well as a loss also for our young Development XI at Cheriton Fitzpaine last week. However, all-in-all, these matches have given a good number of players games before their respective League matches start.

Our new Sunday N.Devon League XI have also played their initial 1st Division game, in which I'm pleased to say they recorder by an emphatic eight wicket victory against last year's champions, Bideford, Littleham and Westward Ho!

Victory was achieved mainly due to 82no from Ryan Hunter, 36no from Ryan Glass and 30 from Joe Hopkins.

They chased down their target of 155 in only 23 overs, finishing on 158 for 2, after young spinner Alfie Butterfield grabbed 3 for 35 (8) and Praison Alias 2-23 (6) kept the Bideford total down to 154 for 8 in their 40 overs.

This Sunday they play N.Devon at Creedy Park with a 1pm start.

We wish all teams good fortune for the forthcoming season.
