CREDITON UNITED 1 - BOVEY TRACEY 7

NEWLY crowned champions Bovey Tracey were far too strong for the young Crediton lads on Tuesday, April 21 at Lords Meadow.

In front of a bumper crowd the away side laid siege to the Crediton goal and even the heroics of keeper Lewis Layton could not deter Bovey.

The evergreen strikers of Levi Landricombe who scored four and Stuart Bowker who added a couple were unstoppable and Landricombe moved to the top of the goal scoring charts, and it showed what a good result it was for Crediton when they narrowly lost 2-1 at Bovey a few weeks ago.

They are by far the strongest side I have seen this season.

However, it was not until the 23rd minute that Bovey opened the scoring 0-1.

On 31 minutes a close range finish made it two, 0-2.

On 38 minutes a long ball out of defence caught the Crediton defence napping and Landricombe stole in for his second and Boveys third, 0-3.

A couple of minutes later it was four as an innocuous cross from the left was converted and so the teams went in with the away side four goals to the good and looking certain champs as it was only a point that they needed to be confirmed as winners of the league.

Surprisingly though as the ref put the whistle to his lips Riley Harris's great strike pulled a goal back for the home side so the teams went in at 1-4.

Crediton started the second period in lively mood and Dave Lee had a goal bound header saved by the Bovey keeper.

On the hour Stuart Bowker finished off a team effort and the score was 1-5.

Soon it was six after a powerful header gave Lewis Layton little chance, 1-6.

As the lights dimmed and the home faithful were resigned to a heavy home defeat in this last game of the season, Bovey added a seventh and the final total of seven hardly flattered the away side who if they do go up and hang onto their players may well be a force next season.

For Crediton, it showed the boys versus men gulf that exists between the top of the league and those not so.

A closing fixture awaits away at Bishops Lydeard awaits and then, after a break we will soon have a new season to look forward to
