CREDITON United ladies made history on Sunday, April 19, when they booked their place in the Devon Women’s league final, for the first ever time after a hard fought 1-0 victory over Tiverton Town ladies at Lords Meadow.

In what was a huge occasion for the side, Crediton rose to it superbly and got the decisive goal early in the first half.

Captain Maddie Taylor struck after just nine minutes to give the home side the lead, that proved enough to send the home side through.

It was a tough and fiercely contested semi final with both sides battling throughout, but Crediton showed tremendous determination and discipline to protect their advantage.

Tiverton pushed hard for a way back into the game, but Crediton stood firm from front to back with a solid team performance to secure an impressive clean sheet.

A major part of that defensive effort came from goalkeeper Lily Tomkins who put in an outstanding display between the posts and played a key role in keeping the visitors out.

Lily was named joint player of the match alongside Abbie Carthew and Molly Tomkins, with all three producing excellent performances on a memorable day for the club.

The result is another sign of the progress being made by the side, with their commitment on the training ground and desire to improve each week continuing to pay off.

Tonight, Friday, May 1, is the final against Braunton FC ladies at Feniton FC - EX14 3DF with a 7pm KO.

The Crediton ladies hope as many supporters as possible will get behind them in their first ever cup final, when they hope to bring silverware back to Crediton.
