KENN VALLEY UNITED 0 - SPREYTON 8

SPREYTON came running out the traps in Saturday’s game against Kenn Valley and in the first five minutes Cameron Pow played a lovely cross to Liam Ward to flick a header to go 1-0 up.

It was a similar situation five minutes later with another lovely cross from Cameron Pow for Matt Baker to volley home in the bottom corner.

Spreyton held back for 10 minutes after the two early goals but broke again and Chris Down was through on goal to score his first hat-trick with a lovely finish past the Kenn ‘keeper.

Just before half-time Josh Phillips played a ball in to Liam Ward on the edge of the penalty area for him to turn the defender and smash home his second to take the half-time score to 4-0.

Spreyton started well again in the second half when, within 10 minutes Chris Down found himself through on goal again from another of a Cameron Pow assist to slot home his second of the afternoon.

The rain started to come in and it felt like the goals were going to stop until Cameron Pow broke from a lovey 50-yard pass from Liam Ward for Cameron to power through 40 yards and slot home past the ‘keeper to go 6-0 up with 15 minutes to go.

Chris Down completed his hat-trick five minutes later with another through ball played and Chris shrugged off the Kenn defender to complete a lovely composed hat-trick!

With five minutes to spare Baker broke into the box but couldn’t get a shot off so flicked the ball over the ‘keeper and defender on the left-hand side of the six-yard box for Kieran Statton to head home the eighth goal.

Great start to the season and to be top at Christmas is a great achievement!

Chris Down and Cameron Pow were joint “men of the match”.
