WINKLEIGH made several changes going in to the match after they fell to their first defeat of the season the week before and it paid dividend as they played with real conviction from the start.

The first goal came on the 20th minute mark when a great corner was met by striker Robin Knight, who wasn’t going to miss with a free header.

Freddie Finch (16), was next on the score line, not long after, when his shot was powered home for his first goal in competitive adult football.

Robin Knight who is getting back to match fitness after a shoulder problem, looked back to his best when he broke free with power and pace to slot home at the near post to put Winkleigh in a decisive lead going in to the break.

It was another first goal in competitive football this time for Keiran Mcginley who fired one over the keeper from 30 yards to make it 4 - 0 just after half time. Knight completed his hat trick with a spot kick before Jonathan Butler, nursing a season long goal drought, rounded Winkleigh scoring off for the day making it 6-0.

With seconds remaining Heavitree, who never gave up battling, were rewarded scoring from a corner that was tucked away at the back post as the referee blew time.

A huge credit to a depleted Heavitree side that didn’t give up for 90 minutes.

For Winkleigh it could be the performance that starts a run of consistent performances that puts them in a running for top of the table.
