Devon Intermediate Cup - Round Three

CREDITON RESERVES 8 - BAMPTON SECONDS 1

CREDITON Reserves hosted Bampton Seconds on Saturday, November 5, in the last 32 of the Devon Intermediate Cup. Creddy made one change with Tom Jordan replacing the evergreen Nigel Thomas in midfield.

On a slow pitch Creddy started quite lethargicly but did take the lead through a well-taken Josh Badham goal on 12 minutes.

However, there was a shock to the system as Bampton equalised on 19 minutes bringing an end to the long clean sheet run.

A woefully underhit back pass from Matt Kingdom put the striker through on goal and he proceeded to nutmeg Keast from 12 yards.

However Creddy got back on top and made it 3-1 by the break with goals for Ben Clement and a second of the game for Badham.

Creddy switched Ben Clement from centre-half to centre forward in the second half to go with two strikers up top. This saw Creddy make a lot more chances throughout the second period.

Ben Clement scored a second half hat-trick to take his personal tally to four for the game, which asks the question, is he a more prolific striker than Adam Pidgeon? Who incidentally went scoreless in this game.

Two fantastic efforts then ensued. Firstly the Bampton centre forward received the ball on the half turn fully 40 yards from goal, turned and sailed an excellent strike well over the stranded Keast’s head but the ball unluckily cannoned back off the bar.

At the other end, after nutmegging two players, Danny Harvey sent a delicate curling shot from 25 yards which also came back off the bar.

Creddy added two late goals. First from a corner a Chris Gibbo strike took a slight deflection and nestled in the corner of the net and then Chris Acton powered home an excellent side volley from 12 yards to complete the scoring at 8-1.

Man of the match was Danny Harvey for his creative attacking play and four assists.

The Reserves are now into the last 16 of the cup and would love a home draw in the next round.

This coming Saturday (November 12) they host North Tawton again.
