CRANBROOK 2 - SPREYTON 1
A GREAT game of football from both sides on Saturday, October 14 saw Cranbrook edge past Spreyton to reach the third round of the Intermediate Cup.
Both teams started the game equally with chances created at both ends but nothing was coming off. After 20 minutes the deadlock was broken and Cranbrook lofted the ball over the Spreyton defence for a lovely finish over our ‘keeper to go 1-0 up.
It stayed like this until half-time even with chances from both teams still coming with Jez Stephens hitting the cross bar it didn’t seem Spreyton’s day.
After the break the Spreyton lads re-grouped and started to play the football we are capable of and paid off a lovely ball over their defence for Chris Down to gamble and flick over the ‘keeper almost identical to Cranbrook’s first goal.
It seemed like the game was heading for extra time until we failed to clear our lines 75 minutes in and the ball was shifted out wide for Cranbrook to put an inviting ball in the box and unfortunately hit the head of our player Ben Angel to go in to make it 2-1 with 15 minutes to go.
This didn’t stop Spreyton or Cranbrook going for chances and the game could have gone either way but it was Cranbrook’s day and they venture on in the cup.
Man of the Match for Spreyton was Jez Stephens.
Thanks to George Jeffery and Tyler Cole for coming out and not getting on! Great attitude from all the lads and we go again to hunt for our first away win against Colyton Seconds. The last time these two teams met it was a 2-2 draw on a damp afternoon in Spreyton.
