FOR their first game of the new season, Copplestone United Lions, the U12s played in their new kit with track suit tops sponsored by R K H Construction Limited based at Bugford near Lapford and new shirts from Jewson’s of Crediton.

These were formally handed over at a little, rather wet, ceremony on Saturday morning, September 16, on their playing pitch at Burston Meadow, Bow.

Rob Holland, owner of the family firm RKH and Darren Fox with Aaron Foster from Jewson’s Crediton, turned up to wish the team luck in their match against Brixington.

Rob, whose son plays for Copplestone and who has sponsored their shirts before, said that sponsoring the tops was for the community.

He also sponsors Crediton Second team and Downes Crediton Golf Club.  His firm is now working on the conversion of the old cinema in Crediton, the former Buccaneers, for Crediton Dairy.

Darren said that Jewson’s were Copplestone’s main shirt sponsors.  “We like to sponsor local teams,” he said.  “We also sponsor a Sandford FC team.”

U12 manager Neil Carpenter was proud that the team was promoted from Division Four into Division Three of the Devon and Exeter Youth League this season.

“We have a number of enquiries about young players joining our club, we currently run eight teams from five to 16 years.  The club would like to expand but we cannot do that without more helpers, that is a major problem for us,” he said.
