MONDAY, July 18 saw Downes Crediton Golf Club seniors play the Alan Ruddock Trophy. On a day that saw some fine scoring, Steve Gidley kept up his recent good form posting a seven under par 43 points and top score.
Steve also took top spot in Division One with Dave Conabeare and Frank Sanders finishing second and third respectively both scoring 38 points.
Andrew Chandler won Division Two with his 40 point total beating Paul Dorothy (38) and Stan Gibson (38) by two clear points.
Stan Gibson won the Alan Ruddock Trophy for the highest points total for a senior aged 70 plus.
Once again the Mid Week Stableford, on Wednesday, July 20, was well-supported and Neil Wood dominated scoring a wonderful 44 points to take top spot.
Mark Harris (40 points) followed on in second place with Richard Belcher third posting a 38 point total.
Downes ladies had a fun day on Thursday, July 21 competing in their Ladies Captain’s Day hosted by Lady Captain Liz Mapson.
Playing a team Texas Scramble the team ofJune Mitchell, Sue Bonner and Di Parsons top scored with a nett 72. Finishing second, also scoring nett 72 but losing out on the back nine were Stephanie Moffat, Joyce Gilg and Joe Coe.
Margaret Mapledoram took victory in the nine hole stableford qualifier scoring 19 points.
On a week of good scoring Saturday, July 23 saw the Presidents Prize prove no different. Hobie Rendell took victory with a very creditable 43 points.
This also saw him top of the pile in Division Three beating a trio of players on 40 that included Jamie Izzard, Paul Doran and Lee Chudley.
James Bourner took top spot in Division One with a 39 points total beating Paul Sandercock (39 points) into second place courtesy of a superior back nine.
Ken Galvin won Division Two scoring a fine 42 points, three better than second placed Simon Coupe (39 points) with Chet Greenslade in a group in third place with 38 points.
Chet’s score also meant he won a new trophy, the 40th Anniversary Jug, presented to the club by Tristan Kershaw and open to any player that has been a Captain of any section of the club.
