CREDITON U14’s 1 - ALPHINGTON 7

SATURDAY, December 7 saw a much depleted Crediton Youth Under 14’s side return to league action hosting top of the league Alphington.

The first 15 minutes saw both sides creating chances, but Alphington’s fast counter attacking saw them score the first goal of the match.

They went on to score two more making it 0-3 to Alphington. Crediton however put on a brave performance, creating chances.

After a few sighters from distance, Finn found the back of a net with a long distance, curling effort into the top corner making it 1-3 at half-time.

The coaches (Dave Hughes, Darren Crump and Dave Hartshorne) encouraged the team in the half-time team talk, telling us to keep knocking the ball around and that we were playing some good football.

The second half saw Crediton edge the balance of play with some fine football and opportunities, but unfortunately couldn’t find the net.

The table-toppers were obviously a little rattled and a couple of Crediton players (Matt and Finn) found themselves on the receiving end of some off the ball challenges. However, Alphington’s long ball game resulted in them scoring four goals in the latter part of the half.

The flattering final score was 1-7 to Alphington, but didn’t really reflect on the game. Great team spirit and effort was shown by the Crediton squad.

In his post match report, Coach, David “José” Hughes picked out great performances from Matt (Hartshorne), Betsy (Sam Betts) and Finn (Warren).

Thanks to Betsy (Sam Betts) and Talitha (Roche) for answering the SOS sent out by the coaches for a last minute call up.

No more ribbing from Tyler - after a lean spell, Finn finally found the back of the net!

On Saturday, December 14 Crediton host the match against Okehampton in what could be an important six-pointer in the battle to avoid the bottom three.
