BOW Recreation Group IS celebrating having reached a milestone of sowing the grass seeds for the new football pitch on Burston Lane.

The group formed a new committee comprising members of the local community in October 2014.

With the help of local community businesses and members of the communities of Bow and Zeal Monachorum they have set about developing recreational facilities.

Phase One of the project is to develop a football pitch with changing rooms and a car-park. The group hope to have this completed by July 2017.

Local team Bow AAC is set to start playing on the pitch in September for the beginning of the 2017-18 football season. Bow are currently in the Devon and Exeter Premier League.

It is hoped the facilities will also be used by the village youth football club and other organisations.

The Chairman of the Group Paul Edworthy stated: “We would like to thank all of the organisations and people who have helped support the group, those who have attended our events and have made donations.

"We have achieved a great deal in the last two years with minimal funding but a great deal of local man power.

"It is amazing what you can achieve with a bit of community spirit.”

Paul also mentioned that the group’s mission is to “develop a fitter and healthier community adding: "We would like to welcome any local organisations to come forward so that we can accommodate their activities to expand the group’s offerings.”

The group also met with Mel Stride MP for Central Devon at North Tawton in November 2014 where he offered his full support to the project.

Mel commented: "It is great to see that the development of the recreational ground is progressing well.

"Paul and his team have done a fantastic job and their efforts will give residents here in Bow a wonderful community asset for sports and other events for decades to come."
