SPREYTON 4 - SILVERTON 0

AFTER missing the last two weeks’ play due to the weather, Spreyton FC arranged to play Silverton at Axminster’s 3G all-weather pitch on Saturday, December 8.

In very windy and wet conditions the opening 15 minutes was evenly matched with both teams struggling to adapt to the conditions.

The Sprey’s started to get the ball down and put the pressure on the Silverton defence. After chances going by the deadlock was broken by Owen Gregory to put Spreyton 1-0 up and the lead going into half-time.

The start of the second half saw the introduction of Matt Burt to make his debut for the Sprey’s, who were starting to create more and more chances.

On 70 minutes they got their second goal through a Koehan King free kick on the half-way line, looping over the Silverton ‘keeper.

The Sprey’s were starting to play good football and the best goal of the game came via a delightful through ball from Liam Ward to carve open the Silverton defence which sent Owen Gregory through one-on-one and he finished superbly into the bottom corner.

Sam Hawkey, making his debut for Spreyton, was then introduced to the game.

In the 85th minute Spreyton got their fourth goal through good work from Owen in the box, squaring it to Chris Down for a tap in.

All-in-all it was a comfortable win for Spreyton in tough conditions.

Man of the match for Spreyton, making his second debut, was Mike Hows who was superb all game.

Next up for Spreyton is an away match against Holsworthy in the Intermediate Cup on Saturday, December 15.
