THE Seniors fourball better ball open was played at Downes Crediton Golf Club on Monday, May 15.

The event saw a full field from around the county, but it was the team of Geoffrey Briggs and Trevor Sayce from Saunton Golf Club, with a score of 39 points, to take this year’s overall prize.

The best away pair were John Nash and David Allen from Looe Golf Club who scored 39 points. There was also a best mixed pair prize, which was the team of Gary Price from Crediton and his partner David Sims from Libbaton Golf Club, as they scored 39 points.

The best home pair where Robin Abrahams and Peter Denford who scored 38 points.

The winner of the Wednesday (May 17) stableford was Jordan Dyer who scored 37 points.

Downes Crediton Ladies captain, Rebecca Aven and her partner Lyn Parry took top spot in this year’s Ladies Coronation foursomes on Thursday, May 18, with a score of 34 points while the pair of Ying Wong and Anne Woodger finished second with a score of 33 points.

In the nine-hole Ladies Stableford Norma Barry scored 18 points, to take the victory.

The winner of the nine-hole Thursday roll-up was Andrew Miles who scored 21 points.

Mid Devon Foursomes

Downes Crediton’s annual Mid Devon foursome’s weekend saw 160 players compete at Okehampton, then at Downes Crediton for the title of Mid Devon Foursomes champions. 

The best handicap round at Okehampton went to the pair of Dean Abrams and Rich Camies from Okehampton who scored 36 points.

The best scratch score was the pair of Paul Rattenbury and Matt Parry who scored 25 points. 

While at Crediton the best handicap score was Micheal McLeod and Robert Ware (Great Torrington) who scored 35 points and the best scratch score was taken by Paul Ezard (Okehampton) and his partner Tom Ezard (Hampworth) who scored 26 points. 

The trophy prizes and the best single-sex team was won by Julian Lawrence and Neil Horgan (Cricket St Thomas) with a score of 69 points.

The best mixed pair was won by Susan and David Williams who scored 66 points and finally the best handicap score for both rounds was taken by the pair of Alan Searle and Kevin Cornwall (Okehampton) with a scored of 71 points.

The best scratch pair also from Okehampton was the pair of Will Searle and Lewis Parry who scored 54 points.
