SANDFORD Cricket Club seconds have made a great start to their C Division East campaign with two wins in their first two matches.

Two weeks ago they started their campaign with a tricky away game against Seaton.

Batting first, Sandford accumulated 212 for 9 from their 45 overs led by Ryan Glass 52 (9 fours) and supported lower down the order by Archie Osborne continuing where he left off last year with 54 no (2 sixes 5 fours). Maximum batting points attained!

In reply, Seaton's middle order kept things interesting, but eventually they had no answer to spin twins skipper Shaun Hawkins 3-33 (9) and Ryan Glass 3-26 (8) as they were eventually dismissed for 201 to give Sandford an 11 run win and claim 20 points.

Last Saturday, Exeter seconds visited Creedy Park, and to put it politely they got a right mauling. Tom Gidney smashed the ball to all parts of the ground scoring 117 form only 87 balls (5 sixes 12 fours), and together with Ryan Glass 52 (56 balls 2 sixes 3 fours) they added 136 for the second wicket. Ben Handley and Shaun Hawkins continued the carnage when it was their turns as Ben stroked his way to 67no (8 fours 1 six) and Shaun 29no putting on 78 for the unbroken 4th wicket. The eventual total of 291 for 3 was a good score, but not an unbeatable one on a superb Sandford track.

Exeter remained in with a chance as long as Elliott Barnes was in the middle but once he departed for 51, nobody else really got hold of the Sandford bowling. Exeter seconds were eventually bowled out for 167 in 34.5 overs to give Sandford a 124 run win and claim maximum 20 points for their victory. For Sandford Ryan Glass claimed 4 for 36 (9) and Ellie Bishop bowled superbly as she demolished the tail with 3-15 (3.5).

The seconds move on to Ottery this coming Saturday, May 17 with a 1pm start.
