THERE was sporting action for at Tedburn Recreation Ground on Sunday, June 22 when Cheriton Bishop and Tedburn St Mary Primary Schools went head to head for the very first Chedburn Cricket Cup competition.

A joint school PTA fundraiser, more than 200 fans watched as both teams battled it out for the Chedburn Cricket Cup Trophy.

Each team comprised of parents and staff of their respective school, with Cheriton Bishop the overall winners by 38 runs with 139 runs to Tedburn's 101!

Alongside the match were a number of activities as well as the very popular kids’ cricket.

Friends of Cheriton Bishop Primary School Chair Anna Southall, said: “A special thank you to our friends at Sandford Cricket Club for allowing us the opportunity to borrow kit.

“The boys and girls of all ages absolutely loved having a cricket knock about.

“To conclude the day families battled it out with Tug of War! We’re not sure who was more competitive, the kids or the adults!

“We have been overwhelmed by the positivity and support for the event, so can be sure it will return again next year!”

“The clear motivation for its success from both villages made it a very special day.

“In addition, a huge thank you to all the businesses and volunteers who got behind us and supported the Chedburn Cricket Cup with their kind donations and offers of help.

Particular recognition went to Clare Bowden of Tedburn and Anna Southall of Cheriton for heading up the event.

Everyone who took part is now eagerly waiting to compete for the Chedburn Cup in 2026.
