NORTH Tawton Bowling Club has won its first trophy of the season.
The Club sent four teams of three players to compete in the annual Paxton Cup at Pinces Gardens Bowling Club, Exeter.
The cup was given by the parents of Rob Paxton, a local international player and is played for annually between the two clubs.
North Tawton were the winners and the Paxton Cup was presented to Christine Ainger, the Ladies Captain, by the Captain of Pinces Gardens Bowling Club.
Members were given a very welcome cream tea at half time.
North Tawton Bowling Club has made a good start to the outdoor season.
The green and the surrounding gardens are looking superb.
Thanks to grants and fundraising the Club has been able to renew the boards on two sides of the green with plastic boarding which will be more durable.
The club was recently chosen to host a Devon Bowls Match between their Ladies and Gentlemen and received numerous compliments regarding the venue and facilities.
Members will shortly commence playing in the club competitions which take place during the summer, culminating in the Club Finals Weekend on August 16 and 17.
Non-members are always welcome to go along and watch any matches.
The club has a covered veranda with a lovely view of all the rinks.
During August the club will also be celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the opening of its green, so there is a lot going on in at the Club.
The club has also welcomed six new members this season who are receiving tuition and starting to play on roll up nights.
Club member Janet Edwards said: “It is great to watch them progressing and being part of the Club.”
