AN evening of entertainment was enjoyed at Queen Elizabeth’s Lower School at Barnfield on Saturday, January 30 when the local Young Farmers’ Club performed to a room full of friends and family.

Newton St Cyres/Bow YFC performed Bad Reception which was directed by Fran Hutchings, whilst Cheriton and Tedburn YFC performed Gizmo directed by Richard Tucker.

The performances were judged by Rob Pudner from Entertainingly Different, Mrs Joyce Pomeroy (Stage Struck) and Mr Paul Walker (CODS) who placed Cheriton and Tedburn first.

Best actress award went to Alice Giles from Bow YFC who played Lucy Houghton with best actor awarded to Dan Grist from Cheriton and Tedburn YFC who played Ben Mason.

Member of the year competition was held throughout the evening, with backstage interviews taking place for members, with additional on-stage interviews for the senior members.

The Junior competition was judged by Ruth Maile and John Daw who placed Louise Putt, Katie Grist and Holly Gilbert, all from Cheriton and Tedburn YFC, first, second and third respectively.

The senior competition, which was judged by Julie Sprague and Jon Lee OBE, saw Alice Giles (Bow YFC) first, Georgina Davie (Newton, St Cyres YFC) second and in third place was Rachel Retter from Cheriton and Tedburn YFC.

The audience also got a taste of the Haldon Group Choir with their performance of Best Day Of My Life by the American Authors, and a Lion King medley. Tim Matthews gave the choir group advice for the next round.

The choir, drama and members of the year will go through to the County competition which takes place this coming Sunday, February 14, in Paignton.

The group ballroom dance team also performed their routine which won at County round and are now practising for the South West Area competition which takes place in Weymouth in March.
