A MUCH-LOVED Crediton business has closed its doors after more than 55 years of service to the community.

Lewis’s, a family run independent retailer trading since 1969 offered a wide range of domestic appliances and a repair service.

Gerald and Sylvia Lewis first opened as Dar (Domestic appliances renovations) in 2 Pannier Market, Market Street, before moving to 39 High Street, now Happy Garden.

It then moved to Lords Meadow Industrial Estate, where the shop, workshop and store were under one roof.

Gerald and Sylvia’s daughter came to help out in 1984 and stayed for 41 years, Hayley’s husband Tim, sister-in-law Mandy, brother-in-law Nigel along with help from Hayley’s uncle Richard and good friend John were all a big part of the business.

Hayley and Tim Greenslade said that running a small business is challenging these days and the lack of people coming through the doors were all factors to their decision to close the doors and retire.

They would like to thank their staff for the great support over the years and to all their customers over the last five decades.
