THE Cheriton Bishop SpeedWatch group is being re-started and volunteers are needed.

Cheriton Bishop Parish Council has appealed for volunteers to step forward if they are willing to help reduce speeding in the village.

It says that the volunteers will operate in teams of 2 or 3 to monitor speeds with a hand-held radar in all of the village speed limit areas.

Speeding drivers have their number plate reported to the Police Liaison officer and receive a warning letter.

Frequent offenders may be visited by the police and the data that is sent in helps police to allocate their own mobile enforcement teams, who can issue fixed penalty fines.

Volunteers are provided with training, hi-vis jackets and equipment.

How often you take part is completely optional - and pairs or small teams can often arrange their own programme of monitoring sites, times of day and frequency.
