VIOLINIST Joel Munday (18), from Tedburn St Mary, will be presenting a violin and piano recital at Crediton Congregational Church on Saturday, July 14, from 7pm.
Having started his violin studies at the age of seven, Joel recently won a scholarship to London’s Royal College of Music, where he will be studying from this September.
He has won numerous awards including, in 2016, the Two Moors Festival’s Young Musicians’ Competition. He has recently completed his A levels at Exeter College.
The recital is presented by the Music Makers’ – a project established five years ago to provide performance opportunities in Crediton for locally based musicians. The modernised Congregational Church has a good Welmar grand piano, has excellent acoustics and comfortable seating.
Joel will play works by Igor Stravinsky, and Camille Saint-Saens, and violin sonatas by Cesar Franck and Claude Debussy.
He is accompanied by pianist Peter Clarke, who is based in Torrington. Peter has made frequent appearances alongside Joel, including at the Two Moors Festival and Budleigh Music Festival.
Joel and Peter also performed at Crediton Congregational Church last year at a lunchtime event, and have appeared at a previous Music Makers’ evening concert.
Doors will open 6.30pm, with music from 7pm. The audience is invited to make donations on a "pay what you decide" basis at the end – with a guide price of £7 per person to cover the costs of the event and, says organiser Paul Vincent, “to raise whatever we can to support Joel and Peter in their future performances.”
All are very welcome to attend. For more information please contact Paul Vincent by email at: [email protected] .
