QUEEN Elizabeth’s School (QE) has been meeting with families and local residents as it develops plans to revitalise the historic College House and is inviting the community to events in the new year.

QE has also shared an update on its long-term estate planning.

While the school has an ambition to bring its community together on a single site, it is still working in partnership to find the best solution for all stakeholders and no decisions have been made.

The upcoming engagement events focus solely on early thinking around the project to repair and refurbish the College House building located on St Lawrence Green.

The school has already started speaking with parents and families about the emerging ideas for College House, exploring options to modernise the historic building in line with its heritage status with the aim of developing an arts education space for student community use.

Last week attendees enjoyed locally baked cakes whilst sharing their thoughts for a refreshed space that serves both students and the community.

Conversations during the events clearly demonstrated the rich history and detailed local knowledge of Crediton. There is now an exciting opportunity to honour this legacy whilst creating a facility for future generations to use.

As part of ongoing work to improve the school’s current accommodation, QE has confirmed that a disused boarding house will be put up for sale.

The Mount which has stood empty since 2018, will soon be advertised for sale following approval from the Department for Education. Any funding generated from the sale will be invested in improvements across both school sites.

The decision forms part of a wider strategy to invest in facilities that strengthen the school estate for future generations.

Local residents, businesses and stakeholders are invited to continue this conversation at upcoming drop-in events, where the project team will share information and gather feedback on how College House can best meet local needs.

Paula Smith, Headteacher at Queen Elizabeth’s School said: "College House has been at the heart of QE, and Crediton, for generations, and we want it to continue inspiring students and the community for many more. We’re excited to hear from Crediton residents as we explore how this historic building can become a vibrant hub for learning, creativity, and connection."
