WOW! We warned you! Those invading Vikings certainly put up a good fight against us Saxons!

Thanks to a National Lottery Awards for All grant of £6,000 and £1,500 worth of other funding, the Rotary Club of Crediton were able to organise a spectacular re-enactment of Saxon Crediton being attacked by Vikings as part of their contribution to the Crediton Festival.

The two-day event saw hundreds of spectators go along to Lords Meadow to be taken back to 10th century Crediton.

Visitors saw more than 120 warriors being trained for battle, their camps and special displays which explained the detail.

The event was staged by Britain's oldest and largest Dark Age re-enactment group, The Vikings.

Dressed in historically accurate costumes, the group demonstrated cooking and cleaning, along with full-scale battles.

Members shared their passion with visitors and answered lots of questions.

Breath-taking displays were presented each day – one of the early highlights of the Festival which marks the 1,100th anniversary of the founding of the first cathedral in Devon at Crediton.
