QUEEN Elizabeth’s School is asking people what they think of renovating College House to “provide arts education for the school and community”.

The Crediton secondary academy is currently split across two sites: the Western Road campus and the Barnfield campus around one kilometre away on foot.

QE has “long been exploring the possibility of uniting the school onto one location in Crediton”, a spokesperson said, with a “key part of this long-term ambition” being the “transformation” of College House.

A Grade II listed building, College House was built in 1859 in the Gothic Revival architectural style. It is described as a “central” part of the Western Road campus.

“QE is now in the early stages of exploring options to repair and modernise the historic College House, in line with its heritage status, to provide arts education for the school and community,” the spokesperson continued.

“Rooted in the building’s history and character, the school is exploring how College House could not just deliver a state-of-the-art learning environment fit for future generations of students but also meet the needs of the community to become a valuable facility for the town.

“Local residents, businesses and stakeholders are invited to attend drop-in sessions to meet the team involved in this project, find out more about the early ideas and share thoughts on how this opportunity can meet the needs of students and the Crediton community.”

The drop-in sessions will be held at the Boniface Centre on Thursday, January 15 from 5pm to 7pm and on Saturday, January 17 from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
