THE story Is a house building bonanza about to begin in Crediton? appeared in the Courier on Friday, July 14, issue 1146.
Devonshire Homes and partner Cornwall Housing have started to build 185 new homes at Tarka View, Wellparks on the outskirts of Crediton.
Mid Devon District Council planners have delayed their decision on the controversial Pedlarspool (Creedy Bridge) development of 326 houses proposed by Gleesons.

There is also outline application for up to 60 homes on land in the Threshers area and Barratt Homes has proposed 120 homes at Chapel Downs Farm, Crediton.
This could mean another 745 homes in the Crediton area and is causing a number of concerns from residents including, increased pollution and traffic congestion, flooding, schools, doctors surgeries and sewage.
In recent years Crediton has lost a number of services including its hospital beds, the police station front desk, St Lawrence Care Home, the public toilets at The Green and now the MDDC run surgeries.

What you told us ...
It’s ridiculous! How are the doctors surgeries going to cope? What about the drainage? The smell from the sewerage works, particularly on a Monday when they stir it up is bad - it stinks. And what about the emergency services the NHS is already struggling.
Crediton Resident
I think its ridiculous. If they want to build that many houses they need to build a doctors surgery and a new school first.
Kay Shillingford, Crediton
I suppose it’s good for the town in some ways, but I don’t like them taking so much land for housing. It’s a catch-22 situation. The road into Exeter is already bad and more traffic means we will end up queuing.
Terry Millar, Langford, Newton St Cyres
I don’t think it’s fair that someone who pays full price for their house could be living next door to someone who has paid less because they are having affordable housing. It’s just not fair.
Crediton Resident
As long as the houses are for local people and they are affordable. Although I do worry about the extra pollution, the schools and the doctors surgeries which are already struggling.
